Al Zahrawi was born in Al Zahraa city in Cordoba. Al Zahrawi is known to the Western world as “Albucasis”. He was known as a pioneer in disease diagnosis and ear disease treatment. His famous encyclopedia “Al Tasrif” consisted of thirty volumes. He improved many surgical operations, especially limb amputation. He also created an instrument for extracting the dead fetus. Al Zahrawi was the first to shed light on the concept of hemophilia, and he was the first to use silk thread in sewing wounds, he also founded the technique that resulted in the creation of dentures.
